The current Community 0.72a release provides separate 32-bit, x64 and Windows ARM64 downloads. Choose using the operating system and processor type, rather than assuming that every installer with 64 in its name fits the same computer.
Check Windows system type first
Open Windows Settings, then System and About. Under Device specifications, read System type. Note both the operating-system architecture and whether the processor is x64-based or ARM-based. The Windows version number alone does not distinguish those two processor families.
Windows 11 is 64-bit, but Windows 11 devices can use different architectures. A 64-bit Intel or AMD PC and an ARM-based Windows laptop are therefore different download choices. A Mac with Apple Silicon needs the separate Mac guide.
Match the release asset to the device
| Target | Installer filename | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| 32-bit Windows / x86 | eMule0.72a-Installer.exe | The standard 32-bit application |
| x64 Windows | eMule0.72a-Installer64.exe | 64-bit Windows on an x64-based processor |
| Windows on ARM64 | eMule0.72a-InstallerARM64.exe | Windows on an ARM-based processor |
The release also supplies archived executables and source code. An archive requires you to manage extraction and files yourself. Source code is for building the program; it is not the ready-to-run installer a new user normally wants.
Architecture is different from release branch
Community 0.72a and the older official stable 0.50a are separate branches. Selecting x64 does not mean selecting a different network or a paid edition. Keep the release number and architecture as two distinct items in your installation notes.
Use the download page to compare branches and follow identified sources. File naming can change in later releases, so use the current release's own asset description when updating.
Back up before switching an established installation
Close the running client and preserve configuration and Temporary folders before replacing a build. Record their actual locations. A newly started copy using fresh default folders can look as if the old transfers vanished even when their data remains elsewhere.
Follow the backup checklist and the selected release's update instructions. Do not run two copies against the same Temporary directory as a comparison test, and do not delete the original configuration simply to remove a startup wizard.
Check what changed after installation
Confirm the reported version, folder paths, shared files and connection status. A changed executable location can also require reviewing the computer's existing application rule. Architecture does not automatically transfer those operating-system settings.
Will 64-bit make every download faster?
No. Architecture is an application-compatibility choice, not a guarantee of faster sources. Remote upload slots, file completeness, your connection and local storage still determine what can transfer. If the correct build runs normally but waits, use the download troubleshooting guide rather than repeatedly changing installers.
