The practical Mac route is aMule. The Windows eMule installer is not a native macOS application. aMule is a separate, compatible client for the eD2K and Kad networks, with its own releases and interface.

Download aMule for macOS

Choose the Mac package, not a Windows ARM installer

At this review, the aMule project lists version 3.1.0 and a Universal2 disk image for macOS 11.0 or later. That package supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Check the requirements on the project's download page before choosing a release for an older machine.

Apple Silicon is an ARM architecture, but an eMule Windows ARM64 installer still targets Windows. Matching the processor family alone is not enough: the operating system also has to match. For a native Mac installation, select the aMule macOS .dmg.

Install the all-in-one application

  1. Follow the macOS download from the aMule project's own download page.
  2. Open the disk image and find aMule.app.
  3. Copy that application to Applications as described by the project.
  4. Eject the disk image, then start the installed application.

The image also includes aMuleGUI, a remote interface for an already running aMule core. For an ordinary desktop installation, start with aMule, the all-in-one client. Installing only the remote GUI is a different setup.

Read any macOS security warning

The project's installation documentation says its Mac package is unsigned. If macOS blocks the first launch, check the download origin, release and warning before deciding whether to allow that particular application. Apple's linked guidance explains the operating system's installation controls.

Keep the wider security protections enabled. A warning is not proof that a file is safe or unsafe by itself, and a copy on an unrelated download portal is not interchangeable with the release linked by the project.

Choose folders and an upload limit

Use the first-run wizard to review connection settings and storage locations. Choose a deliberate Incoming folder for completed files and a Temporary location with adequate space. Review what will be shared before copying personal material into either area.

Base the upload limit on the usable upstream speed of your connection, with headroom for other applications. The bandwidth guide explains Mbps and byte-rate units; check aMule's own displayed units before entering a number.

Connect eD2K and Kad separately

aMule uses the same network families as eMule. Configure the TCP and UDP values shown by the installed client, check application access on the Mac, and point any router mapping at that device. Windows-specific firewall screenshots do not apply directly to macOS.

A maintained server list helps eD2K discovery. Kad needs an appropriate starting contact. Our network comparison explains the distinction; follow the aMule manual for its current menu labels.

Check a simple search before migrating old transfers

Confirm connection status and try a simple search for material you are entitled to obtain. If the client works but one file waits, inspect sources and queues. Before importing an old installation, preserve a separate backup and follow aMule's migration documentation rather than overwriting the only copy of your configuration.
