aMule for Linux: install and connect

Install aMule 3.0.0 on Linux with distribution packages, Flatpak or AppImage, then configure Kad, eD2K servers and firewall ports.

Best-known Linux route: aMule is a separate open-source client designed for eD2K and Kad. The aMule project released version 3.0.0 on 8 June 2026.

Choose an aMule package

Distribution package

Usually the simplest installation and update path. The version depends on your distribution.

Flatpak or AppImage

The 3.0.0 release provides modern x86-64 and ARM64 options. Verify the architecture before downloading.

Build from source

Useful for developers and unusual systems, but it adds dependency and maintenance work.

Connect aMule to Kad and eD2K

  1. Install aMule from a trusted repository or the official release page.
  2. Select incoming TCP and UDP ports and allow only those ports in the host firewall.
  3. Add a current server.met source or connect to one known live server.
  4. Bootstrap Kad from known clients or a trusted nodes.dat source.
  5. Confirm Kad is connected and the server status is not reporting Low ID.

The concepts are the same as in our server, Kad and ED2K guide, although menu names vary between eMule and aMule.

Headless and remote use

Advanced users can separate the aMule daemon from its graphical or web interface. If you expose remote control, bind it conservatively, use strong credentials and place it behind an encrypted VPN or reverse proxy rather than publishing it directly to the internet.
