A server.met file contains eD2K server information. Importing a maintained list is a convenient way to avoid entering every address manually. It is not a file catalogue and does not contain the files you want to download.
Use a maintained source
The public eMule Security list publishes the updater address below. Check its source page if the address stops working or changes.
http://upd.emule-security.org/server.met
Prefer a short list with an identifiable maintainer over hundreds of addresses copied from old pages. The number of entries is not a useful measure of quality on its own.
Import the list
- Open the Servers window in eMule.
- Find the field labelled Update server.met from URL, or the equivalent in your language.
- Paste the updater address and run the update.
- Inspect the resulting entries and connect to one of them.
- Read the client's log if the retrieval or connection fails.
Some related preferences live under the Server settings. The URL import field itself is in the Servers window; old instructions sometimes blur those two areas.
If the list will not update
Distinguish a failure to retrieve the file from a failure to connect to a listed server. If retrieval fails, check the address and the source's availability. If the list imports but one entry fails, another listed endpoint may still work.
Repeatedly replacing the list cannot repair a local firewall or router rule. Use the port checklist when the client also reports reachability problems.
Adding one server manually
A single entry needs an address and a port. Obtain both from a maintained source and check what you entered before connecting. An old familiar server name does not prove that the address belongs to the same operator today.
The server and Kad overview contains a clearly dated snapshot. Treat that snapshot as a starting reference, not an uptime guarantee.
server.met is different from nodes.dat
server.met concerns the server-based eD2K network. Kad uses information about other Kad participants, often stored in nodes.dat. Updating one does not automatically repair the other.
You can keep both discovery methods enabled. Once Kad is bootstrapped, it can find sources without relying on a central eD2K server. If your server connection works but Kad does not, continue with the Kad connection guide.
